Situated in the heart of medieval Caux, just 5mins from the picturesque town of Pézenas (birthplace of Molière), this large, elegant property has 7 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, and a private saltwater swimming pool with a sauna and massage space. It combines the traditional charm of a 19th century wine domain set in walled grounds with the convenience of modern.
The grounds:
The residence offers several terraces benefiting from the Mediterranean sun throughout the day, Surrounding the long swimming pool is a dedicated barbecue area (gas and charcoal) and poolside dining-spaces for those sultry southern evenings. Garden furniture for 14 people, including 8 sun loungers and 2 dining terraces will make large family gatherings a breeze. The manor further boasts 7500m² of landscaped parkland to be explored. Amongst the garden’s century-old mature cedars and oaks, you will find a full-sized boules pitch (pétanque) so you can play the traditional jeu provençal which originated in the region.
The saltwater swimming pool, which has a heat pump, comes with its very own poolhouse, where your family will be able to take full advantage of the sauna and massage room available. Its indoor kitchen enables the preparation of more elaborate meals so the whole house can assemble for a well-earned poolside feast.
The Main House:
The main house is set over three floors with original features including double height ceilings, tiled floors, elegant masonry and artisanal cornicing. The open plan between the kitchen, dining area, and lounge is illuminated by large French windows which give seamless access from the indoor lounge’s plush sofas to the outdoor covered terrace. Original elements have been restored and furnished with great care to detail: the three period chimneys have been preserved, including a large traditional kitchen fireplace over a La Cornue cast iron cooker and oven. More formal dining is offered in a large, separate dining room; a relaxing evening can follow in another cosy library room right opposite.
The stone staircase’s graceful spine makes for a light and airy stairwell leading to the two upper floors, welcoming guests to explore the rest of the 450m² main house. There, one will find the master bedroom suite with its four-poster bed, its en-suite bathroom with standalone bath on lion paw feet, and a study room furnished with large sofa, armchair, embellished mantelpiece and views of the grounds. 5 more double bedrooms are scattered throughout the two floors, each featuring large mirrors and simple yet tastefully colourful interiors.
Another playfully decorated bedroom contains two single beds, perfect for children of any age. In the spirit of the French “maison-vigneronne”, the bucolic bathrooms are of generous proportions.
The Media and Game room:
In addition to the main house, is a subsequent event building. Beyond the ornate Moroccan fountain one reaches the chai (former vinification area) which has been repurposed into a 350m² events building containing both a media room and a games room where you will find a pool table, football table and table-tennis. This wholly separate entertainment building ensures you will take full advantage of the vast size of the manor.
The area:
There is thus no shortage of activities within the manor’s grounds. However, if you need to venture outside, the nearby availability of canoeing, watersports, treetop adventures (accrobranche) and golf course will satisfy the needs of even the most active families; for a truly rounded holiday, a wide range of cultural outings are also available, from visits to the Sigean safari park to the Cathar castles via the Bassin de Thau oyster beds and the nearby dinosaur museum. For more relaxing times, the local beaches are ideal for serene and relaxing days.
